I too was frustrated by the Sims 4 camera controls. Initially I was determined to stick with them and get to know them but in the end I relented and ticked the Sims 3 camera option. My camera controls now work exactly as they did in the Sims 3. I'm no expert but have you tried using the keyboard camera controls? If you get a different result
